I am taking some time off after a busy holiday season to free up some quality time outside of my full work schedule. This has been a part-time business for me (mostly at night and on the weekends) and my full-time profession is currently demanding a lot of my attention with a big project implementation in 1Q09.

Once that project is finished I plan to spend some time fixing the site's shopping cart (my web host made an update which broke it), learning how to host the web site myself or making some changes to minimize the potential for hosting provider server updates to break something I wasn't expecting.

I am expecting ephotoz.com digital photo enlargement services to be on hold through the end of March 2009.

ePhotoZ.com was launched in Jan 2006 so we've had a good 3 year run and business has never been better.

April 7 update: the big project implementation mentioned above went well and my involvement finished 3/27. I'll be off taking pictures between now and mid to late May.

July 2 update: Photo services are still on hold.... likely through the end of the summer. I'm going to need to re-do (re-platform) the web site which means a lot of time and late nights inside at the computer. Not sure I'm up for it right now but will re-evaluate in August.

August 27 update: Photo services are still on hold. I’m enjoying my time off too much and now training for a marathon.

Interpolation - an electronic upsizing of the image file is performed using sophisticated algorithms to avoid pixilation by painting in the blanks ( read more ).

Noise reduction - specialized software routines are employed to help reduce the noise which can be typical of digital photos at high ISO's

Color correction - This step matches the color balance of the photo to the printer

Sharpening - a routine designed to improve image 'crispness'

Other - clone out dust or digital artifacts, perspective correction, rotation, brightness and contrast adjustments, etc.

Some images may require extensive editing which can result in additional charges (we'll tell you first and you can opt out).

While digital has overtaken film as the photographer's choice, ponder this comparison: a drum-scanned 35mm image results in a 6000x4000 pixel file ( 24 megapixels ). Most consumer digital cameras are between 6-8 megapixels. Digital is awesome but the technology is still playing catch up to film resolution... that's where we come in.
